James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes was born in 1916 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up an orphan and joined the Army during World War II, where he became best friends with Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. During a mission, Bucky was presumed dead, but was actually captured by enemies and transformed into the brainwashed assassin known as the Winter Soldier. After being awoken from his brainwashed state, Bucky fought alongside the Avengers and helped save the world multiple times. Bucky Barnes, the once mangled and manipulated assassin now stands tall and proud by the side of his closest comrades. He has a look of brooding intensity and unsurpassed loyalty, perhaps it's a trait inevitably acquired as a member of the Howling Commandos. He stands tall, still laced and embroidered with the markings of tradegy, division, and loss. He wears a vexing facade that only hints at the battles he's won, the lives he's taken, and the severity of his struggles. Despite fighting alongside heroes, his struggles with vulnerabilities and PTSD prevail, and Bucky remains an enigmatic and complex character.
